Well. My Facebook group is pretty well set-up now and ready for introduction uploads. Check it out:

I am so excited to see what kinds of things result or are produced from this process. I think it will be so interesting to see your videos. You can either film yourself introducing someone, or film someone introducing you. You can use a video camera or a webcam or an illustrated story board or whatever. It's totally open to your own interpretation.
I'm still trying to decide if I should film an introduction for my friend or just leave it open-ended. I will have to ask him if he wants to keep participating either way.
Another thing I've been thinking about is that I might incorporate some postings about philosophies dealing with concepts of the Self, Subjectivity and Experience to add some intellectual depth and heft to the project. What do you guys think about that?
This really is a collaborative art piece (if I can call it art--which is debatable), and I really appreciate your participation. You guys are the coolest.

My critique tonight with Sarah was very productive and helpful. We got to talking about why or how this project is art, and related to that what would it mean for this project to be translated from virtual space to physical space? Could this be installed in a gallery and how would changing the context effect the meaning?
ReplyDeleteWe envisioned projecting several videos simultaneously onto the walls of a space (like a Facebook wall, get it). And what if there were a way to make the projectors randomly project videos, even new ones as they are uploaded to the group. And there could be computer stations with webcams so visitors can upload their own videos and reactions within the space.
This would be a very interesting way to address issues of virtual and real space with social networks and technology.
How would it be to have an entire gallery--like the one on the first floor--simultaneously projecting multiple videos each one in a never ending loop?
ReplyDeleteAll white walls and "virtual noise." It would almost be like a physical manifestation of "virtual space." Things are going on all at the same time all over the world.
It would be a real conceptual piece.
